REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA--Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, continued his working visit to the Ijen coffee plantation area in Bondowoso managed by PTPN and Perhutani, on Tuesday (06/24/2025). This visit is part of the implementation of Asta Cita Prabowo-Gibran, especially in strengthening MSMEs and increasing the competitiveness of local products in the global market.

In addition, this activity also confirms the central government's support for the development of the plantation sector, especially coffee as one of Indonesia's main commodities in the international market. In an activity titled "Great Harvest with the Ijen Coffee Farmers Community", the Vice President did the harvesting and sorting of coffee directly, until he had a dialogue with coffee farmers.

In that activity, the Vice President also handed over food aid and goat livestock distributed by PTPN. The Ijen Mountains Area is one of the leading coffee producing areas in Indonesia with an area of about 15,600 hectares.

Coffee plantations in the Ijen Mountains consist of a combination of land managed by PTPN (4,986 hectares) and Perhutani land managed by people's farmers (10,666 hectares). This region becomes an ideal model of collaboration between the state and society in the development of coffee plantation commodities.

The President Director of Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III (Persero) Holding, Denaldy Mulino Mauna, said that PTPN and Perhutani actively assist coffee farmers in this region through the PMO Coffee and Cocoa program of the Ministry of Nusantara. "Farmer assistance is carried out comprehensively, in collaboration with various stakeholders, especially BUMN that are engaged in the plantation business, such as Pupuk Indonesia for the provision of non-subsidized fertilizer access and Himbara for financing access," explained Denaldy.

We also have a Coffee and Cocoa Research Center in Jember which is a research center that supports assistance to coffee farmers throughout Indonesia," he added.

Furthermore, PTPN also manages coffee plantations in the Ijen Mountains Area known as Java Coffee Estate (JCE). JCE operations support various strategic programs, such as replanting, sustainability certification, implementation of traceability concepts, and adaptation to global regulations.

Presented by Jatmiko Krisna Santosa, President Director of PTPN IV which is a Sub Holding of PTPN III (Persero), since PTPN IV managed the cooperation of JCE management operations with PTPN I in 2022, the progress of the production and marketing of Java coffee shows encouraging results. In 2024, JCE was able to produce arabica greenbeans coffee up to 825 tons which was mostly exported to foreign countries such as Germany, Belgium, the United States, England, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.

"Seeing a positive trend throughout 2024, we believe that the export of specialty arabica coffee from JCE known as Java Coffee will continue to grow. And also most importantly, JCE can be a role model for farmer coffee cultivation in the PMO ecosystem," said Jatmiko.
